I have wanted to make a JOY To The World mantel display this Christmas ever since we bought the house last year. I’ve never had a mantel to decorate before. I have been thinking and thinking about how I wanted to do it. The song Joy To The World is one of my favorite songs to sing at Christmas time. To me it expresses the very way that we feel about the birth of Jesus. I was just on the phone with my mom and she shared with me what their pastor had just told them last Sunday. He said that JOY means Jesus is first, Others are second, and You should be put last. I LOVE it! Isn’t that how we should always look at everything. Just think if we lived that way all the time how JOYFUL we would be year round. Not just this time of year.
Oh guys, you have no idea how much I have labored over these JOY letters! I’ve redone them 3 times, and still can’t decide if I’m a 100% happy with them.
First of all I got some poster board with the foam in the middle, and cut out my letters. I measured my letters perfectly, and yet still my Y looks smaller than the rest. LOL!! But, if you put it on top of the other letters they are the same size! I don’t understand!! Maybe because the Y has a slant at the top and the other letters don’t. I don’t know, but I should have stopped then.
Then, I spray painted them with an opaque gold glitter, but they blended in too much with the wall.
Then I spray painted them with some transparent red glitter to just ad to the gold in hopes that it would make them stand out better on the wall. MAJOR craft FAIL!! I can’t even begin to tell you!! You could see spray paint lines and where there was too much red glitter….just awful! So bad, I can’t even show you pictures. Then, after starring at my fail for a couple of days and doing some therapy shopping at Target. 😉 I had the idea of wrapping the letters in red tinsel!! That will fix my fail I thought and look ever so Joyful this Christmas.
I wrapped each letter in the tinsel, and on the floor they looked fantastic, but then up on the mantel…..I just can’t decide. I like them and then I don’t. Hee hee hee! Have you ever had a crafting fail, and you just don’t know what to do? But you have worked so hard and given it SO much thought that you can’t just throw it away??? This is the situation I am in!
To complete the project I bought a green wreath and wrapped it in burlap. Then at Michael’s craft store I found this super cute sign and wrote in chalk marker To The World. I LOVE how the wreath turned out. Whew! I think the mantel is just going to have to stay this way for this Christmas. I’ve spent so much money with all my cans of spray paint, tinsel, wreath paraphernalia!! 🙂 Please let me know what you think. Or how I could make it better. Please be kind. 🙂
I hope with ALL my heart each of you have a JOYFUL Christmas!!
