Growing up, meal time was always a family event. We ate together every night at 6 pm. EVERY NIGHT!! It drove me crazy as a little girl. Why not at 5:30 or 6:15??? 6 o’clock was when my dad got home from work and 6 o’clock was when we ate. As much as it might have bothered me at the time I look back and now see all the memories that we made. Dinner time was when we shared about our days and just talked about everyday things. As an adult, and having a family of my own, I now know the importance of eating together and having that expected set time everyday to share a meal together. It’s special and not a lot of families do it anymore. We are all so busy.
My mom cooked most of our meals at home. It was rare that we went out to eat. (which was another thing that drove me crazy when I was young) My brother and I would do homework and then go outside to play until when?? 6 o’clock! I now love cooking at home as well and being together as a family in the evenings. Our home isn’t complete unless all 6 of us are together and better yet all in the kitchen. One of our favorite meals is making pizza together. We have a large island in the kitchen with bar stools on one side. I’ll prepare the dough, and then we will all put together a pizza, cook it, then eat on that one while we make another different kind. Then repeat. We usually end up making 3 different kinds before we are all full. It’s so much fun! There is always so much laughter and funny stories told. I love it!
Today, I wanted to share one of the pizzas that we enjoy making. It is a Roasted Bell Pepper Pizza. The peppers add so much flavor to the pizza. It’s delicious! We are also huge green olive and Peperocini fans as well so we always have to slice some up and sprinkle a few on. They always seem to make it on each pizza in our house. Our favorite Roasted Bell Pepper topping to use when making this pizza is by Mezzetta. We love their Peperoncini’s, olives, and their Roasted Bell Peppers. It’s so nice to have a brand that you can depend on. Especially this time of year when life is so busy with the holidays. It’s nice to know what you are getting with each purchase.
This Christmas my brother in law and his family are going to come and stay with us for a few days. I’m thinking of having one of our “pizza parties” while they are here. I’m imagining how much fun it will be to have all the kids in the kitchen making pizzas and playing games. I’m sure it will be a mess, but a ton of fun! If you would enjoy having a pizza party with your family this holiday season as well, be sure to go to Mezzetta Memories and get a $.50 coupon off all Mezzetta products. Do you have dinner together as a family? What are some of your favorite dinner memories of when you were young? Do you have a meal that you can all make together?
Here is how we put together our pizzas. We start off with already made dough. You can buy store bought or make your own. To get my recipe click HERE. I make mine about an hour before hand, but you can make yours days in advance if you want to and freeze.
First you will put your favorite sauce on top of your crust. I’m now craving another pizza. Homemade pizza is really the best!
Below is a picture of our favorite Mezzetta products that we enjoy putting on this pizza. The Roasted Bell Peppers, Spanish Queen Olives, and Peperoncini. We slice the olives and peppers up into smaller bite size pieces. The peppers are so tender you can gentle tear them up with your fingers. Delicious!
- Pizza dough (click HERE for my recipe)
- Mezzetta Authentic Pizza Sauce
- Mezzetta sliced Spanish Queen Olives
- Mezzetta Roasted Bell Peppers
- ground sausage
- sliced pepperoni
- Shredded Italian cheese
- Make you pizza dough about an hour ahead of time. Instructions can be found HERE.
- Once your dough is ready lay out some parchment paper and sprinkle a little flour down.
- Roll out your dough to make a 12 inch circle.
- Poke some holes all over your dough with a fork.
- Place your pizza crust in the oven for about 5 minutes.
- Once it has cooked for a few minutes and turned a golden color it's time to put on your delicious toppings.
- Spread some pizza sauce all over your pizza except for right around the edges. You'll have to leave some space for your fingers to hold your delicious slice! ;)
- In any order top your sauce with pepperoni, sausage, olives, bell peppers, and cheese.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese on your pizza starts to bubble and turn a golden brown.
