What is your favorite way to eat Oatmeal? Do you like whole oat groats, rolled oats, or steel cut? I typically will eat the rolled or steel cut oats. They seem to be my fave! Steel cut oats are healthier for you because they are the least processed. They basically take the oat groats and just chop them up really small like little sesame seeds. To me they almost have a nuttier flavor. Which ever way you like it,your oatmeal is still bursting with fiber and heart-protective nutrients. So you can’t go wrong. I keep both steel cut oats and rolled oats in my pantry on hand. I have a lot of yummy recipes that will call for the rolled oats so I don’t ever want to run out.
I love the flavor combination that blueberries and strawberries have together. It’s like they were meant to go together. Kind of like peas and carrots, chips and salsa, potatoes and gravy, ham and cheese…ok seriously I need to stop, but I’m sorta on a roll!! You get me point. It’s just really good. Not only are they super good together but they are really good for you too. Berries are low in fat, carbs, and calories, but high in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. You can’t go wrong with this yummy goodness. Just think of all the crazy health benefits in this one bowl of Oatmeal and Berries!
I have a new love and that is almond butter. My mother introduced it to me. It has probably been around forever just like peanut butter but for some strange reason I am just hearing about this good stuff. It tastes just like almonds but in a creamy form. It has little bitty pieces of almond in it so it’s a little crunchy. Tonight we had waffles for dinner and I spread some on top of my waffles before drizzling it with syrup and it gave my waffles a sweet and salty flavor which I love!! I also put a tablespoon into my oatmeal! So good!!
- 1 cup oatmeal
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup berries
- 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 Tablespoon almond butter
- a sprinkle of slivered almonds for garnish
- Bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Add oatmeal and let it simmer until the oatmeal absorbs most of the water. Stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and pour into a bowl.
- Put your sugar and almond butter on top. Blend into oatmeal if you wish.
- Top with berries and slivered almonds.
